GUTO PIRES is a composer, guitarist and
singer born in Guinea-Bissau. He moved to
Portugal in the late 1970s. From that time he
started to participate in several musical
projects. Multi-talented musician, creator of
songs and sounds from Africa, Guto Pires is a
sharp observer of what goes on in the world,
especially in Guinea Bissau, fountain of
inspiration for his writing. He performs his own
pieces that talk about Africa but also popular
songs from his home country.
Discography: “Sol na Manssi” is the first
solo CD of Guto Pires (2002, Ocarina).
Performances:
Guto Pires has toured throughout Europe, Africa,
America and Asia with different musical projects
and with his own band as well. Last year he
undertook a very successful tour through Belgium
and the Netherlands.Through his career Guto
Pires has developed his own music style,
incorporating in his compositions the polyphonic
dimension which he has inherited from the
culture of his country. |
